Meet The Team - Michael Cooper

"Computers and technology have always been my first love, and now happily, I find myself working at the best of the best IT companies, AMT!"

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Zimbabwe, Harare up till the age of 15 then moved to Botswana, Gaborone where I finished school and then moved to South Africa to further my studies. I have recently relocated to Free state Bloemfontein, South Africa so I could be closer to family.

Where did you go to university?

I went to Durnacol Skill and Innovation Hub in Durnacol KwaZulu-Natal, as well as Ranken Training Center in KwaZulu-Natal.

How did you first become interested in technology?

When I was very young, I was always interested in the way things worked. I would take apart whatever I could get my hands on to see what made it work. I loved the challenge of putting it back together, or if that failed, using the parts to create something else.

Why do you love technology today?

Everyone owns something these days that has some technical component to it and for me it is always interesting to see the newest leap that makes your life, job or activity a little easier. I really enjoy watching technology continually evolve.

What’s your favorite thing to do off-hours:

I am an outdoors person and love going fishing and camping and when I am not doing that I go to the gym, I love watching tv shows and YouTube videos on technical things how are they made and how things work.

Are you married and do you have kids?

I am married to the most incredible women in the world. She is a priceless motivator and keeps me pushing forward and achieving my goals.

We have a bearded dragon named Branas he is our pride and joy, and we currently consider him, “our kid”.

What was your favorite job?

I worked some years as a diesel mechanic which is a very dirty and physically demanding but it seemed every aspect of that job used some form of a computer which got me to pursue my first love, computers.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

I have been married for 6 years and even though I know my wife is not a thing she is the one thing I would not be able to live without, I am truly blessed to have such an incredible woman in my life.

What are your primary duties here at AMT and what is your favorite aspect of the job?

As a Support Engineer, I am always looking for the best ways to help our clients. I ensure they are optimized to increase efficiency and quickly fix any IT issues. My favorite aspect of the job is seeing my clients happy and their technology working seamlessly.
